North and South Devon Holiday Cottages by the Sea
Straddled by the Celtic Sea and Bristol Channel to the north and the English Channel to the south, Devon (or 'Devonshire' as it is often affectionately called) offers some of the most dramatic coastal scenery you're likely to find in the UK, or anywhere in the world for that matter, with the South West Coast Path running along both shores. This makes is Devon's holiday cottages by the sea some of the most sought after anywhere. The climate is also rather agreeable, with Devon often flagged as warmest place in the country during summer months and having one of the mildest winters in the world for its latitude (olives are now even being grown in Devon!).

We proudly present a fantastic range of accommodation by the sea in Devon in some of the county's most sought after locations on both coasts. The north coast boasts world-class surfing and watersports spots, with Westward Ho! (no, the exclamation mark isn't a typo!), Croyde, Woolacombe, Mortehoe all facing west into easterly winds and Atlantic swell. Further east, past the sheltered harbour of Ilfracombe, is the coastline hugging Exmoor National Park. This little brother of Dartmoor is the gem in North Devon's crown, and packs in woodland, green meadows and truly breathtaking beaches, with the seaside town of Lynton right in the midst of it.
Beautiful Devon Seaside Cottages & Holiday Homes
South coast Devon features rolling green pastures, soft beaches, calm waters and is dotted with pretty harbour towns and villages, which have some of Devon's best self-catering holiday accommodation with sea views, including Salcombe and Dartmouth, which are both popular with the boating community and those looking to take advantage of the thriving food culture based around locally sourced ingredients. We have some lovely seaside cottages close to these holiday hotspots.
The county's title derives from 'Dyfnaint', the Celtic name given to the land of the Dumnonii people, a relatively isolated tribe who inhabited the region during the Iron Age. The Dumnonii, which roughly translates as 'deep valley dwellers', were a peaceful and hospitable bunch (much like its current inhabitants!), to such an extent that, when Roman forces arrived having already conquering much of Briton, the tribe welcomed the newcomers and, as archaeological evidence suggests, were allowed to carry on their normal lives.
Not only can you enjoy the stunning scenery from your sea view or beachside cottage in Devon but you can also absorb the rich history this land has to offer. The county has produced a number of famous historical figures, particularly in the field of maritime exploration, such as Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Riley. On the less chivalrous side of things, the notorious Pirate Henry Avery (read about his globetrotting exploits in my blog here!) was also born and died in Devon.
