Seafront Cottage, Gardenstown
Availability & Pricing
Gardenstown is an old fishing village, founded in 1740 clinging to the cliffs at the edge of the Moray Firth. Seafront Cottage is directly on the seafront in the conservation area called Seatown. Although the harbour still has commercial fishing, it is far removed from the early days when it was a bustling commercial fishing port, with most of the harbour now given over to pleasure craft.
Unlike its neighbours, Seafront cottage was built on the site of an old cottage in 2011 and was designed to fit in with the surrounding cottages dating back hundreds of years.
The cottage is intended to look like a net store from outside, (it is on the site of an old net store/cottage) where traditionally the local fishermen would have stored their nets between seasons and trips, and to repair any tears.
However, step inside and open up the shutters and you are in a different world. You have a large picture window, directly on the seafront, with the waters of the Moray Firth approx ten feet from the window at high tide.
From the sofa, cast your eye across the silver wood burning stove, the flat screen television on the wall and out to sea and across to More Head. Dolphins frequent the area and when visible you could view them without standing up. In addition there are many different seabirds, seals etc to view on what is an ever changing outlook. We provided glasses to view the wildlife.
Being a new build, all mod cons are in place. Underfloor central heating; cosy and well insulated against inclement weather; wood and steel spiral staircase; music system with built in speakers; quality shower over bath in large bathroom; fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher; wood burning stove etc, etc.
The cottage has two bedrooms upstairs, the front bedroom having a double bed with again that view out to sea. The other bedroom has two single beds. All have Egyptian cotton sheets. The cottage and setting is ideal for a romantic break for two, or can comfortably accommodate a family of four.
Within the village of Gardenstown there is a hotel/bar and a small “village store” with petrol sales.
Walks literally start at the front door – if you manage to tear yourself away from the sofa and the view.
Seafront Cottage makes an ideal base for touring this unique corner of North East Scotland, visiting the other coastal villages – each with their own unique character – the whisky trail; the castle trail; the nearby towns of Fraserburgh, Macduff, Banff, Turriff as well as the splendour of the Highlands, or within just over an hour's drive the cities of Aberdeen - or Inverness.
You choose, knowing that you can return to your own eyrie each night, directly on the Moray Firth; light the stove; pour something cool (sample from the Whisky Trail?) and enjoy the experience of sharing sunsets and tides...
Saturday to Saturday weekly bookings.
Min four night stays available off season within Sat to Sat.
