The Malabar on Ellary Estate, Nr Lochgilphead
Availability & Pricing
The Malabar is situated at the head of Loch Caolisport, getting great views from the full length living room windows which occupy the whole wall. It has a verandah to sit out on during the warmer weather (and if you're lucky, you might even spot red squirrels sitting on the top of the verandah rail!), as well as a bench and barbecue on the grass.
It has a double room and a twin room, comfortable living room with electric fire, a good sized kitchen with seating area, and a bathroom (shower over bath). There is a large area of grass behind the chalet which is quite private, and also the area out the front.
If you like fishing, it is ideally placed right at the mouth of Lochead Burn - where you would be looking to catch sea trout. A permit (available from the office - £20 per rod, per week) will do you for the burn, but also for the various hill lochs we have (catching brown trout). If you walk a little further down the road, you will find places suitable for fishing off the rocks to catch mackerel (no charge).
If you enjoy walking, then you're in the right place - as a guest on the estate, you will have unrestricted access, so you are welcome to explore the thousands of acres available to you (pop up to the office and we can point out some of our favourites!).
If bird watching, or wildlife watching is your thing, then you are also in the right place - with over 80 species of bird (including golden and sea eagles) spotted, as well as otters, deer, red squirrels, pine martins, badgers and seals - the list goes on!
Photographers will undoubtedly enjoy the scenery that the Scottish West Coast is known for - we can show you some of the best secluded sandy beaches in the area. Head up to top of the hill to catch the sunset, or enjoy sunrise from the comfort of the chalet (look out to the left, over the water).
Equally, if you enjoy just sitting out, relaxing and listening to the uninterrupted birdsong with a good book - that is something we also do well!
Dogs are very welcome in all of our properties - the first stays for free and a second is charged at £10 per week. For more than 2 dogs please contact me before booking (although it's not normally a problem).
Our weekly rate is £485 - £750 dependant on dates.
Short breaks (min 3 nights) available at short notice (within 2 weeks), or out of season (Nov-March).
Minimum stay 5 nights during the season (unless short notice) - changeover day is normally a Saturday.
