With outstanding views over the bay of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Bertys Beach View is set in the middle of the promenade on the first and second floor of this iconic building within the owner’s cafe, in the heart and soul of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. First established in the early 1900s with a fascinating history and founded by Ben and Rosie, The Bertorelli family have been in residence here for generations, and to this day, this splendid building and ice cream parlour is run by Frank and Mayling Bertorelli who look forward to welcoming you to share time in this art deco style building. Visitors will receive a complementary voucher for coffee and a home made 99 Italian ice cream to enjoy whilst soaking up the ambience within the original café.

Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, once a thriving fishing village, still has a few fishing cobles and can be seen from the large windows going out to sea. If you are lucky enough, you may spot the dolphins or some seals and will often see the local ’dolphin watch’ team around.

If you are not out and about exploring, then enjoy your lunch or dinner sat in the large bay window of your apartment whilst relaxing and watching the sailing boats or admiring ’The Couple’ off shore statue, the only one on the north east coast and designed by Sean Henry. Later in the evening you can relax with the large Smart TV and admire the hand-painted cherub art featured on one wall.

When you step outside, you are on the promenade which stretches for a mile from end to end, with the Maritime Centre at one end which houses a small museum and gift shop. The village has a butcher, green grocer, bakery, takeaways, Italian and Indian restaurant. The golf course is only 500 yards away and the local bus is nearby where you can literally hop on and get off in Newcastle or Morpeth.

The historic town of Morpeth is only 8 miles and has a good selection of shops, some housed in the Edwardian Sanderson Arcade, and plenty of pubs and restaurants. Alnwick Castle is an easy drive as is the Northumbrian Heritage coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Bertys Beach View is near a great road network making travelling around this diverse county, voted the best place to holiday in the 2018 British Tourism Awards, easy in all directions. All the popular attractions are easily reached from here and with the promenade and beach on the doorstep, Bertys Beach View truly does offer the best of everything. Beach 50 yards. Shop and pub 50 yards, restaurant 100 yards.

Guest Comments

"Berty's beach view makes a great base for exploring Northumberland or just for relaxing on the beach which is quite literally on the doorstep. The flat itself is comfortable and well equipped and the owners give a really warm welcome. They also own the cafe below that services a great range of Ice-Cream, coffee's and deserts.Only minor gripe is that the secure parking can be a little tight to get in and out of (this could be resolved by widening the gate opening, but other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again."

Fantastic location, Very friendly and helpful owners. Free coffee and ice cream. Secure car parking. A good base to visit other attractions.
No dishwasher and stairs very steep., but to be fair we knew about this before we booked."

"We had a brilliant week at this apartment. It is full of character, spotlessly clean with a great view of the sea. The welcome from the owners is the best we have received on any holiday. We had coffee everyday at the cafe, with its art deco style and laid back feel.Newbiggin by the sea surpassed all our expectations. It has a lovely promenade and independent little shops. The people here were really friendly. This part of Northumberland has some beautiful places to visit. Quirky harbour towns and stunning countryside. We highly recommend this apartment and hope to return soon."

Joan, May 2021

"We had a lovely time at Bertys and also had wall to wall sunshine, although a very cold wind meant we had to wrap up warm. Bertys had everything we could have wanted and the owners had obviously put a lot of thought into providing all that holidaymakers would need during their stay. Nothing was too much trouble for Frank and he was always on call if we needed anything. Highly recommended."

"Can't rate this highly enough. What an amazing place. Living areas were just big enough for family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens). Decor lovely, really nicely laid out, home from home. WiFi was a bit temperamental but ok. Location was great. Right on the beach for long strolls, a few lovely wee shops and enough takeaways and eat-in places for a few days break. Easy to get on the main routes to Alnwick, Morpeth and Newcastle for days out.Best thing though was Frank and the ice cream parlour/cafe downstairs. It was like staying at a friend's house the way Frank treats you. Will definitely be booking again."

Claire, October 2020

"Lovely apartment, beautifully styled and very clean. Everything was well organised and we felt very safe. The owners were knowledgeable about the local area and very welcoming. We appreciated the voucher for free coffee and ice cream in the cafe below. Excellent location right on the promenade and a good base for visiting the highlights of this beautiful county."
