Dougal's Cottage is a family- friendly and pet-friendly two bedroom former Tin Miner's cottage dating from the 18th Century and located in the thriving North Atlantic coastal village of Pendeen situated between St Just and St Ives in this glorious part of Cornwall.
The coastal path runs through the village with access to the ocean and two 'off the beaten track 'sandy beaches known as Boat Cove and Portheras Beach which you can walk to from Pendeen Lighthouse.
This is not only a Poldark tv filming area but also officially an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as being a Heritage Area with wonderful walks from the doorstep for you , your family and your four legged friend/s to enjoy .
Sennen Cove which is approximately twenty minutes drive from the cottage is a large sandy beach which is popular for Surfing with a cafe and restaurant with wonderful views of the sea . Surf lessons can be arranged here.
The coastal drive from St Just to St Ives is officially recognised as one of the most beautiful scenic coastal drives in Europe. St Ives is approximately 30 minutes away or you can catch the open top bus from Pendeen to St Ives for a truly memorable journey
Pendeen is a friendly thriving village and among it's amenities are a Village shop selling most daily things you might require including newspapers and magazines as well as a selection of locally produced food . There are two pubs in the village both being a short walk from the cottage and a Doctor's Surgery, Village Church ,Fortnightly Farmer's Market, Pottery Shop, Cafe and Tapas , Fish & Chips.
The accommodation offers a lobby area to hang your coats and park your boots and shoes. Open the door into the Sitting Room which boasts the original Inglenook fire place in the centre of which is a Wood Burner . The sitting room has an Ikea blue and white striped two seater sofa and two matching cream Tub style chairs. We have a new Panasonic 40 inch Flatscreen Freeview Tv with Netflix button for guests to log into their account . Guests will also find a Philips I pod dock and CD player , selection of books and boardgames as well as a basket of leaflets relating to local attractions and places to visit and things to do and see.
The cottage is furnished with a mixture of Antique, Vintage and modern pieces and various paintings in oil hanging on the walls some by Cornish artists.
The well equipped Kitchen leads off the sitting room (fixed wooden stair gate at entrance) and is supplied with most things that we would like to find in a holiday cottage ourselves .Circular kitchen table and three Dining chairs. Ceramic Butler's style sink , Fired Earth wall tiles , Electric Cooker ,Microwave , Fridge/ Freezer etc. Double doors from the kitchen open directly onto the patio area of the long grassed garden . At the end of the garden wall is a field with the Atlantic Ocean beyond! Outdoor teak dining table and four chairs.
Return to the sitting room and go upstairs to the two bedrooms which are next to each other ( second fixed wooden stair gate at bottom of the staircase).
Open the shutters in the double bedroom and marvel at the wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean. At night you can see the lights of the fishing boats twinkling . The double bedroom has a comfortable double bed with bed head, four pillows and allergy free duvet .Open style shelving and hanging rail, chair and small dressing table , mirror, wooden floor with rugs.
The single bedroom has wooden floors, rug, Vintage chest of drawers, blackout curtains, hanging rail , chair , mirror. Two pillows and allergy free duvet.
The all white bathroom is on the ground floor and comprises of a bath with chrome hand grips and a wall mounted shower above , shower screen , basin and lavatory , mirror ,robe hooks, towel rail, wall heater, extractor , wall mounted shelf , etc
To Secure a booking we require a deposit of £200 please. The outstanding balance for your booking is payable 6 weeks prior to the start date. We also require a refundable Damage Deposit of £100 which is payable at the same time as the balance . The damage deposit is refundable after the Housekeeper's check assuming that all is at it should be. One or two small well behaved dogs can stay at Dougal's Cottage providing they sleep in the kitchen and do not go upstairs ( 2 fixed stair gates in situ). Doggy fee of £25.00 for each dog for the duration of their stay.
