Claire's Cottage

Claire’s Cottage is a true treasure; a charming ragstone home built some 200 years ago amidst a secluded terrace of five.  Originally a workman’s cottage, it is now a delightful romantic hideaway for two.  Containing many of its original features, the cottage has been comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated and has a wood-burning stove for those cosy autumnal evenings in.  The pretty garden is a tranquil sun trap, providing the perfect spot for outdoor dining or relaxing with a drink and a book amongst the bird song.

There are three golf courses nearby, several beaches (including sandy ones)  tennis, cricket, bowls, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and paddle boarding.  Popular seaside restaurants overlooking the bay provide panoramic views should you prefer a glass of wine and calamari, while watching others enjoy the variety of water sports.

“A cosy, comfortable cottage in a quiet and peaceful location. The property is ideal for the solo traveller or a couple seeking to explore the east Kent coast. The cottage was well supplied with all items one could possibly require during the stay and was in a pristine state of cleanliness which was very reassuring in these times of Covid. The rear garden was the ideal spot to enjoy an after lunch coffee, sheltered and quite the little sun trap. Parking was never an issue on the road adjacent to the property and perhaps a car would be necessary to make the most of this location as the return walk up the hill requires much energy. The cream tea and other items left for us by the owner were much appreciated and enjoyed, a very nice touch. Would definitely return and would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to others. ”

“Lovely cosy cottage with lots of amenities and information on the local town provided by the owners. The welcome afternoon tea provided was also a lovely touch making us feel at home. The location is great if you don't mind a bit of a walk to Hythe and the beach is only a short distance from the high street. Thank you for such a lovely stay!”

“A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location, convenient for the quiet beach and delightful High Street in Hythe, as well as for lovely countryside walks. ”
— Ms L, 22 August 2021
“Lovely quaint cottage with garden. We loved the location despite it being just outside Hythe and up a fairly testing hill (but we found that good for exercise!!). It was a very peaceful location and a good base for us as we were using it as a base to explore Kent. Hythe itself is very close and worth spending time it. We would stay there again without question.”

“This is a delightful, cosy cottage with a pretty garden, which I have stayed in before. It is very comfortable and the garden is lovely to sit out in. The stairs are precipitous so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues but as a fit 67 year old they were no problem to me. Although some ornaments, books etc had to be put away because of covid, the cottage retained all its charm, with fresh flowers in the sitting room and bedroom and a cream tea waiting in the kitchen. The location is good although I got plenty of exercise going down into Hythe and back on foot (a steep hill to get back) as I was unable to drive this year. It's a short walk to the lovely country park where I spent a day and Hythe is a pleasant place to potter in. Be aware that some of the little shops are closed on Mondays! This is certainly a delightful cottage to stay in and I'm sure I shall return another year. ”

“Cute little cottage well equipped, beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. For an old cottage it was light and airy inside and the little back garden was an added bonus.”
— Mrs L, 16 June 2021
“Claires cottage is extremely cosy and comfortable. It is well positioned for visiting local attractions. Some of the door frames are low and the stairs steep just as explained on the website, but this is what gives the property its character. Everything was exceptionally clean and would definitely recommend. We will certainly be returning. ”
— Mrs G, 17 May 2021
“All instructions and information were spot on. The cottage is lovely a bijou delight for a couple or singleton. All the decor and equipment looks very new and works. The welcome was warm and hospitality generous. No issues with parking. Highly recommended.”

“Claire's Cottage is a delightful place to stay. There is lots to see and do in and around Hythe. The local bus services are very good and I would be happy to return and explore further. I would love to stay at Claire's Cottage once again. ”
— Ms B, 29 February 2020
“This is a lovely, cosy cottage. Spotlessly clean, well maintained and equipped. In quiet location and ideal for couples. I would say a car would be recommended for most although there is an excellent bus service close by. I would certainly consider staying again if visiting the Hythe area.”

“Small and comfortable. Just what we like.”
— Mr &, 26 September 2019
“We have enjoyed our stay very much in this beautiful cottage. The home owner provides everything which is needed plus a few delightful touches ie fresh flowers and a delicious cream tea which makes it all a bit more special. This has been our first trip to Hythe and found it to be a delightful little town and full of character. I would not hesitate to recommend Claire's cottage and Hythe as a perfect get away for two. Thank you.”
— Mr &, 8 September 2019
“A lovely cottage and superb garden. Beautifully quiet and restful. We do not drive, so the walks up and down the steep hills (and occasional use of the No 10 bus from Saltwood village green) kept us fit! A promising pub with new owners The Castle in Saltwood. Keep up the good work!”
— Mrs S, 30 August 2019
“Would like to say what a lovely cottage and how well equipped it was. It was like a home from home. Hythe is a lovely place and it was our first time here. but we will be back. We found your renovation book really interesting and a nice touch.”
— Mr &, 27 August 2019
“Thank you for another much needed break away. The cottage was immaculate with every little thing thought of. We came for the Hythe Venetian fete that was something to behold! I know we both truly love Hythe, so here is to next time!”
— Mr &, 23 August 2019
“Coming here was a very late booking due to circumstances beyond our control ,but we have had a delightful time in this charming cottage with excellent weather to match. We have been to Hythe before but never more than for a day, so to have a whole week to explore the area and visit friends that we have not seen for many years rounded off a near perfect holiday. the cottage and all it features were everything we needed in having the ideal setting for a total relaxing break from our very busy lives. Thank you to the home owner.”
— Mr &, 9 August 2019
“Beautiful, clean cottage.”
— Mr &, 5 August 2019
“I really don't know what to say that hasn't been said already. Your cottage has to be the prettiest, cutest place we have ever stayed in. Positively pristine in every way! Thank you for the lovely flowers and delicious cream tea. It was lovely to meet you. We have had a wonderful short break here in sleepy Saltwood and wanted for nothing you have thought of everything. Will recommend and hope to return soon.”
— P and S Southwick, 23 July 2019
