Guest Comments

"Spotlessly clean and very well appointed cottage. Pretty garden with stunning views over the beach. Super dog friendly. "

Mrs Madden, October 2021

"A lovely, comfortable property which is very well equipped and great for the dogs. We were incredibly lucky as the weather was unbelievable but we were so close to the beach we would have have had a wonderful time whatever the weather."

Ms Green, May 2021

"This cottage was far better than we expected. So easy to find and in a wonderful location. The kitchen was well equipped, and the beds super comfy, a real home from home. We enjoyed our early morning dog walks on the beach, and the log burner was such a treat after a cold day spent outside. We’ll definitely be returning as there’s still so much we want to do in the area. "

Mrs M Brown, February 2020

"We required a dog friendly cottage, beach close by for them. Perfect. Peaceful, very clean. Bed unbelievably comfy. Perfect for all our needs."

Ms Jacqline Linn, October 2019

"The property is lovely and great views. Driving into village doesn’t prepare you for the little idyll at the end of the road "

Mr A Hopper, August 2019

"A wonderful lovely place to stay, with generous food items left by the hosts, which was handy as I didn't have time to shop. Immaculate, warm and welcoming with amazing beach walks literally on the doorstep. Very appreciative of the hosts being flexible for my choice of short stay nights, coordinating with my daughter's new job. Very difficult to leave such a beautiful property. I relaxed and slept well for the first time in ages in a comfy bed with lovely crisp linen. Warm and cosy against the Northumberland winds. Amazing place. "

"The pictures in the brochure (which sold it to us) actually don't do it justice. We found this a lovely cosy (but not small feeling) cottage - it was well heated, which was great in November - and we really enjoyed the log burner in the evenings. The standard of everything was exceptionally high - the kitchen had everything in it you could possibly need and the bathroom had a great shower. There were board games and DVDs in the little loft space for the kids. We loved the window seat in the master bedroom too with views over the river. The location was great for us to visit relatives who live nearby. We did use the stairs to go to the beach (although the sloping path around the side of the cottage might have been an easier approach). The beach is beautiful - very clean with white sand and practically empty. We found several starfish one morning on the sands. We hope to visit again in spring or summer and take advantage of the kayak and barbecue. "

"We stayed at Boca Chica 2nd week in October. Very comfortable cottage in a in a quiet road and a good location for exploring Northumberland. The beds were very comfortable and the facilities were very good. Wi-Fi was a bit hit and miss but wasn't a major problem. The garden area was great for the dog, although it could do with a bit of a tidy up. I know its towards the end of the season but the picture in the brochure looks fantastic and the reality is quite a few weeds and overgrown bushes etc. Access to the beach is best from the road rather than the steps at the rear of the garden which are very steep and slippery. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend. "

"Spent a blissful two weeks in this beautifully appointed cottage in prime position with the most beautiful view. Easy access to perfect, quiet beach and yet the secure garden and the courtyard ensures peace of mind for those of us with dogs. Clare provided all we could ask for without being at all intrusive. Already looking to book next year. Highly recommended!"

"A wonderful cottage, that is ideal for a family of 4. Access to the beach is a god-send with the children wanting to go down rain or shine. Wonderfully located with plenty to see in the surrounding areas, with many castles within quick access. Definitely good value for money for the 2 weeks (an upgrade from the previous year of 1 week). Would recommend it to any family and will be looking to come again."

, September 2018

"We loved our stay at the cottage, it was bliss to sit and enjoy our coffee in the morning in the sunshine with the glorious view and our daily walks on the beach sad to leave ."

, August 2018

"Each morning taking my coffee to the bottom of the garden and sitting watch the tides in and out of the estuary - what could be better. Okay, it is rather isolated but that suited us. And the welcome pack awaiting us was really good and took care of immediate needs. Our host, Claire, was very welcoming and attentive, yet stayed out of our way. Boca Chica is s marvellous example of renovation and a great place to stay. As far as we were are concerned, a definite 5 *"

"Beautiful part of the world endless sandy beaches, dog paradise. Quite weather dependant and local amenities are a car drive away. However plenty of interesting places to visit and must say nearly everywhere is dog friendly . Disappointed at the heating in the cottage with it being open plan was difficult to keep warm. Would have benefited from more curtains, lacked a little privacy in the lounge. "

"Boca Chica cottage is the perfect base for exploring this interesting area of Northumberland. Not only were you only a few steps from the beach, but also near to many heritage sites. The Woodhorn Museum at Ashington is a must and only ten minutes drive away. There are many supermarkets and places to eat close at hand. It was great to know that at the end of each day there was a cosy cottage to go back to with every comfort you could possibly need. It is a credit to the owners, who were very friendly and welcoming. We are very pleased we chose to stay in Boca Chica cottage and would recommend it without hesitation."

, October 2017

"We and our dogs we made to feel very welcome. The cottage wa absolutely spotless and decorated to a very high standard. The beach, much to th dogs delight, was right at the bottom of the garden. Both my husband and I enjoyed our stay that much that we hope to return in the future. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to any friends or family."

, September 2017

"We found Boca Chica to be a very comfortable well equipped cottage, this ranks as one of the best that we have stayed in and we go away at least four times every year. The owners had put themselves out and provided a lovely welcome pack even leaving a box of treats for our dog. The situation on the coast was good and still in reach of the local attractions. All being well we will come again to this relaxing cottage."

"The property has been loving restored into a very comfortable and homely cottage, whilst retaining the all the character features. It is well furnished and cozy, with everything you would need and the sofa and beds are very comfortable. The location is fantastic, especially if you have dogs who love the beach and swimming in the sea, as we do, as you can be there within seconds. All the local dogs and owners we met on the beach each day were very friendly. The garden has been cleverly designed, is well maintained and provides a lovely sitting area with great views of the beach and the sea and is no doubt a great spot for a BBQ, however the weather was not warm enough for us to sit out and enjoy it, probably more to do with the fact we are not used to the UK climate, rather than it being unseasonably cold! The shower in the cottage is excellent, however for me the bathroom would benefit from an electric shaver point, as the battery in my shaver ran out mid week. The welcome pack was fantastic from wine to homemade cookies and lots in between; bread, butter, milk orange juice etc. We can highly recommend the food at Blyth Boathouse, where we had lunch on a couple of days. The kitchen in the cottage is certainly well equipped if you are preparing fresh meals every day/evening, as we did, however, for me it would benefit from a larger fridge/freezer to store a reasonable quantity of fresh food at any one time, but would not be an issue for those who plan to eat out regularly, or shop each day for fresh produce. I can imagine the cottage being lovely and cozy at anytime of the year, especially with the large log burner in the winter. I would highly recommend the cottage and if in the future, when we are in the UK, we had another opportunity to spend a week in a cottage right by a beach, we would certainly choose Boca Chica,.....if it was not already booked! Stay Northumbria Limited also need a mention, as their customer service, information provided etc. was excellent"

, August 2017

"The cottage is stunning both inside and out. It has a beautiful garden with steps directly onto the beach below. The welcome pack which consisted of eggs, bread, butter, milk and cookies was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. The children loved the den, especially it's lighting! "

, August 2017

"Boca Chica is a very well equipped holiday home in a peaceful location overlooking a great beach ,.reached by a short flight of steps. The owners have provided everything you need for an enjoyable holiday, even if the weather is changeable!"

, August 2017

"Could not ask for anything better, from the location to the welcoming pack of goodies on arrival. The view from the garden at the back of the cottage is excellent . we spent a lot of our time in the evening's just sitting and looking out over the sea . Plus long walks on the beach. We have been going up to Northumberland for our yearly holiday for a few years and I must say this is one of the best cottages we have stayed at. Thank you. J "

"Welcoming, beautiful cottage close to the beach. The owners have thought of everything you could possibly need."

, January 2017

"Our stay in Boca Chica was a wonderful experience: Cottage: Cosy and comfy, large enough and well equipped, good beds, modern bathroom (I loved the shower), TV with Netflix, nice courtyard surrounded by cottage on three sides, well kept little garden, recently renovated, nice wood burner, everything on ground-level, except for a snug, which is an ideal retreat for children to read or play. If we have to dig for negative points, it would be the WiFi connection, which is patchy at times, but a recently acquired Repeater helped a lot, the sofas, because you sit very low (we are in an age, where this matters) and the fridge, which is a bit on the small side. Location: Nice and quiet (end of a cul-de-sac), a few steps from the garden to the beach, parking next to cottage, owners live next door, cottage is semi-detached to owners utility room, one pub in walking distance, ideal location to Northumberland tourist area, to Newcastle, but also to Ferry from Ijmuiden and to Durham (visit absolutely recommended!) Hosts: Clair and family very welcoming, always trying to help with any questions or issues (help is only one knock at the door away), big welcome package in cottage (Thanks again!), never ending supply of firewood. In summary: Boca Chica suited us very well for our way of vacation and our needs. Absolutely recommended for up to four people. "

"A lovely clean comfortable cottage, beautifully done inside as the photos show. There is a fantastic shower, plump feather pillows and a well equipped but not over cluttered kitchen. The cottage is very quiet, with just the sounds from the sea. A very nice garden with seating and a view down to the beach. However there isn't a path from the garden down to the beach, as it is overgrown with brambles. This doesn't detract from the cottage though, if you aren't expecting it anyway! It is a very short walk to the beach. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. "

, November 2016

"The service we received from Stay Northumbria was superb, and we were provided with lots of useful information prior to our visit. The cottage itself was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The welcome pack was probably the best when we have ever received on arrival at a property, and toiletries were also provided. We visited the area for the Tall Ships Regatta, so we could not have chosen a better location, and easy access to the beach and the lovely garden made it an ideal base to come back to and relax. This is a truly delightful cottage, which has been thoughtfully and tastefully renovated, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. "

, September 2016

"The cottage was spotless when we arrived, we met Maria who had just cleaned it, she was very helpful during the week. The views from the garden were amazing, watching the tide come in and out was great. Everything we needed was there for us, the binoculars were an added Bonus. The den upstairs got plenty of use from our 2 girls, they really made it their little home for the week. The pub down the road was very welcoming, very friendly people in there. A really enjoyable week in a beautiful cottage, the whole experience of Northumberland was fantastic, what a lovely part of the country. We'll be back.."

, August 2016

"Beautiful cottage and garden set above a fantastic beach .Ideal for children and dogs! Owners very accomadating and welcoming. Excellent welcome pack which also included a bottle of red and white wine. Excellent location which was central to lots of visitor attractions. Would definitely recommend this cottage and would like to visit again. Many thanks Claire and Michael!!"

, August 2016

"My husband, myself and our dog stayed at Boca Chica for a few days in July. The weather wasn't too good, but we managed to get on the beach each day at some point. The property is lovely and has been well converted, and there was lots of comforts and extras left from the very helpful and friendly owners. The area unfortunately is not so nice, but as we wanted this break for a rest it suited us. One of the reasons we chose this cottage was that we were under the impression that there was direct access to the beach, but the owner had not had the time to landscape the very steep area that is covered in brambles and bushes making the access impossible, but it is only a short walk down the lane to the dog friendly beach. I would still recommend this lovely cottage to others, even more so when the direct access to the beach has been sorted. "

, August 2016

"House was fantastic and in a great location with direct access to a beautiful beach. House had everything we needed for ourselves and our toddler. Attic space a great wee place to chill out. Owners right next door and extremely helpful - they have done a fantastic job of the conversion. We will definitely be back here."

, August 2016

"Had a great holiday here , lovely stunning cottage on the beach , kids had fun on the beach and the den too, ideal for sea fishing and walks on beach and along the river side . The immediate local area is slightly run down but did not detract from a great holiday and as a hub for visiting the area it was spot on. There is so much to see and do we barely scratched the surface miles of beaches great rock pooling at cresswell, castles , museums . You won't be sorry that you stayed here . We are definitely going back 10 out of 10 from us !!"
