Ornithologists are also well catered for, with the nearby Montrose Basin home to thousands of pink footed geese in winter as well as many other wading birds and seasonal visitors throughout the year.

Montrose itself has plenty of facilities including two golf courses, tennis and bowls, as well as being the venue for Mofest, an annual music festival which attracts big names as well as lesser known acts. “We had a fabulous holiday staying in the beautiful area of St Cyrus. Straton cottage is a delightful house, full of character, spacious, clean and wellpresented. Our dogs (and us!) loved the secure garden and you could even see the sea from the top section! The fire was a lovely treat in the evenings too. We really enjoyed watching the numerous garden birds on the feeder throughout the day! I love running and enjoyed several runs into St Cyrus on a track in front of the house and then down the cliff and along the beach... the hill at the end is a bit of a killer though! For those people who don't do big hills (!) it's literally 30 seconds by car to the beach (which is stunning) at the bottom and a free car park. Couldn't recommend highly enough! Thanks for having us!”

“This is a very well appointed and comfortable house. It sits at the back of Straton House and Kirkside House which are larger properties on a very quiet lane leading down to St Cyrus Bay. The cottage itself is at the end of the drive so you are undisturbed. There is a garage available and left open that has the owners stuff in it but you can use to store bikes etc whilst you are there. The master bedroom with ensuite is in an extension on the ground floor very comfortable bedroom and good wet room shower. Large kitchen with dining table area with french doors opening to garden area. Medium sized garden area, kept very well maintained, lots of birds on the feeders who are quite unconcerned if you're sitting right next to them. Small raised veg plot with lots of lettuce to help yourself to. In the house there is a snug are and a very large lounge. Upstairs two very well appointed double bedrooms. It's a short walk 0.25 miles down a steep lane to St Cyrus beach, which is absolutely stunning. You can walk along the beach or a back road to St Cyrus or its a 5 min drive away. Local cafe looks good, local pub has a nice big garden but is a bit austere. Montrose is a 510 min drive in other direction with supermarkets, restaurants etc.”
