Couples can relax in this luxury cottage with miles of walking trails, cycle routes and an abundance of wildlife nearby.. Situated in the grounds of Old Montrose House, the owners’ home, next to the Montrose Basin Nature Reserve, are these four holiday properties offering high quality accommodation close to each other, yet totally separate.

The Stables (ref UK11108) is a luxurious, detached conversion on two levels with a high spec finish and chic furnishings. Beautifully renovated and lovingly restored, it combines traditional cottage ambience with contemporary style, and features a walk-around gallery in the centre of the building above the living room. The Old Gasworks Building (ref UKC2272) is a delightful detached cottage, which has been built on a historic site, and provides a very stylish and comfortable holiday home. Gardener’s Cottage (ref UKC3040) is a gorgeous, upside-down, detached cottage which was formerly the head gardener’s house in times past. Furnished with style and flair, this quirky cottage is wonderfully situated in a secluded spot in the grounds, with a private sunny garden and patio off the main bedroom where you can soak up the sun in peace. Grieve’s Cottage (ref UK11107) is a little gem – a tastefully furnished and spacious, one bedroomed cottage with an open plan living space on the ground floor and a spacious bedroom with sumptuous bed and en-suite shower room on the first floor.

All guests have access to the owners’ large enclosed walled garden, hard tennis court and small putting green. The idyllic peaceful surroundings are complemented by a structured walled garden and other features, including a rose garden intersected by pathways to meander through and stop to enjoy the scents of summer.

Just a short drive from the centre of Montrose, this is an ideal base from which to explore an area that is rich in culture, wildlife and heritage. Montrose sits on a peninsula between the South and North Esk rivers. The magnificent sandy beach, golf courses and links area are very popular with tourists, as well as additional leisure facilities including tennis courts, bowling greens and parks. Nature enthusiasts can enjoy the adjacent Montrose Basin and Wildlife Centre, where thousands of pink footed geese, ospreys and eider ducks can be seen. Inland there are miles of walking trails ideal for families or serious hikers. The Angus Glens offer stunning scenery and access to some of Scotland’s most striking munros. There are plenty of good cycle routes around the cottage and throughout the area, and for golfers there are over 30 courses within an hour’s drive, including the championship courses of Carnoustie and St Andrews. Excellent beaches including Lunan Bay, Arbroath and St Cyrus are nearby and are ideal for surfing or enjoying a barbecue. Fishing can also be found within easy reach. Beach 3½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 3½ miles.

"I would highly recommend this property to anyone, it is absolutely gorgeous. Richard was the perfect host, lives nearby so if we'd encountered any difficulties he could have helped. Our welcome treats were greatly appreciated as were the small details like the beautiful candles and soaps. The cottage is very well equipped with good quality fixtures and fittings and as I keen cook I was delighted the kitchen had everything I was looking for. Due to the current restrictions we did not make full use of the town's amenities but I did make full use of the beautiful gardens at the cottage and will certainly be back to use the rest of the facilities on site. Already checking the diary to book this cottage again!"

The local area provided us with the coast and hills to explore which we did on foot and by bike. We loved the walled garden and the fun challenge of the putting green. We like golfing and played Montrose 1562 links course (5th oldest corse in the world) Blairgowrie Lansdowne course (just under an hour’s very pleasant drive away) and Edzall - a local parkland course. "Really lovely cottage with great hosts in a fantastic beautiful location. Close to Lunan Bay. Richard was very friendly, really accommodating. Would definitely stay here again in future. We stayed here over Christmas and my only tiny niggle is that we didn't have a real Christmas tree which is something I was expecting for this high quality type of cottage, however this is just me being picky and we did see that they've started growing some so its possibly something in future and it certainly didnt put a damper on our holiday and I still very much give it a 10 out of 10!"
