Greenmantle

Sleeps 4
No dogs
2 bedrooms
1 bathroom

The charming apartment, Greenmantle, is one of ten dwellings, situated in the middle of The Long House on the ground floor to a peaceful courtyard. The Long House was once the Greyhound Inn from which a ferry to Annan ran and is presumed to have been the template for Sir Walter Scott's Tavern in "Redgauntlet". It was by repute, the haunt of smugglers and Border reivers. The names of some of the dwellings take up this Scott connection, while others including Greenmantle, are associated with the author John Buchan. The two bedrooms and the sitting room with dining area windows look straight over the Solway Firth to Criffel Hills in Scotland. On warmer days, the breakwater on that side of the house, is a private area on which to sit right by the shingle shoreline. This would be a great time to watch the birds, study the tide and the mesmeric sea ebb and flow or to watch the spectacular sunsets in the clear sea air. The attractive seaside town of Silloth is just two miles away, and offers many amenities as well as being home to a magnificent championship golf course. Miles of unspoilt coastline afford wonderful opportunities for walking and birdwatching, while the magnificent Northern Lakes are easily accessible. Situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Greenmantle provides a special and comfortable place for a couple or small family wishing to explore this beautiful area and appreciate its fantastic seafront location.

This is a superb area for walking - the Cumbria Coastal Walk runs right along the coastline, providing excellent seafront trails and birdwatching opportunites.

Reviews

“Immaculate and stylish apartment with stunning, everchanging views across the Solway Firth to Scotland.. Great location for visiting Southern Scotland and the Lake District. Enjoyed walking along the shoreline footpath towards Silloth for an evening stroll and lucky enough to see a couple of stunning sunsets despite the mainly overcast weather.”

“Our 6day stay at Greenmantle cottage was incredible the location was very beautiful and it wasn't too far from the Lake District National Park. We really loved how clean and homey it felt, and it came equipped with nearly everything we needed including some great puzzles. Bev was extremely helpful, we were greeted personally by her and she gave us doughnuts and fresh milk. When we asked for a bigger frying pan and a sponge, she came to the cottage the next morning to give it to us! I would highly recommend a stay, thanks Bev!”
