The North York Moors National Park lies on the doorstep with heather clad moors, spectacular scenery and coastal villages, such as Robin Hood's Bay to explore. Alternatively, travel further to the historical town of Whitby, home to the ruined Gothic Whitby Abbey, the Church of St. Mary, reached by the famous 199 steps and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, in the house where Cook once lived.
