Description

Perfectly located to explore Hastings and all its surrounding attractions, this property sits in a superb area.. Wonderful sea views from most rooms. Perfectly placed to explore Hastings and all its surrounding attractions, Spider’s Light, as seen in Foyle’s War, is located in the heart of the old town and nestles in the east cliffs, with access to Hastings Country Park. With sea views from almost every room, the stunning scenery can be enjoyed both inside the cottage during the winter months, and outside whilst enjoying a glass of wine on the enclosed decked terrace. After a brisk walk along the seafront, nestle down on the comfortable sofa and batten down the hatches! Boasting two cosy bedrooms and a compact bathroom, you will be sure to enjoy a good nights rest at this fantastic retreat. This small, 1860’s cottage, originally built for local fisherman, is situated 50 yards from an excellent award winning gastro pub; perfect for evening dining. Spiders Light is situated just 300 yards from the beach and close to a lovely strip of shops and restaurants.

Spiders Light is rumoured to be named after a fisherman who once dwelt in this pretty, converted, end terrace holiday cottage. Spider used to put a light in his window which would guide the fishermen home, and wives would look out from the window to watch for incoming boats. Hastings still has the largest beach launched fishing fleet in Europe and you can also see the iconic black weather-boarded net huts. Look the other way and Hastings old town twinkles at night in front of you and behind is East Hill Country Park with walks from the doorstep. This provides access to 660 acres of woodland, heath and 5 miles of cliff-tops, also accessible via the steepest funicular railway in Britain. Visit the remains of Hastings Castle, discover Hastings’ smuggling past deep in the West Hill at St Clement’s Caves and explore the narrow streets and passageways known as twittens in the old town. Jerwood Gallery houses 20th and 21st century British art and is located in the Stade area - the old fishing quarter. If you have time don’t miss Battle Abbey and Camber Sands, offering miles of golden rolling sand dunes, or the National Trust properties in the area. Hastings train station has good connections to London for additional sightseeing opportunities. Beach 300 yards. Shop and restaurants 200 yards, pub 50 yards.. Lower ground floor: Dining room/kitchen with patio doors and tiled floor. Steep stairs to ground floor: Living room. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Stairs to first floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double with additional Z-bed (for child), 1 single. . Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. Gas hob. Guest Comments

"This beautiful cottage has some of the best views in Hastings. It is very well equipped and perfectly situated."

Anna, November 2018

"The description was very accurate and communication with the owner was excellent. The cottage was spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable, and the location was great. My only gripe was the lack of larger pans and larger oven dishes. This limited the meals that we wanted to cook, although I appreciate many people prefer to eat out when they’re on holiday."

Michael, October 2018
