Lovingly converted from a former barn, it retains plenty of character with beams, stone walls and feature floors, and is presented to a very good standard. The superb living area takes full advantage of the views, and the sunny patio is the ideal spot to relax and watch the waves and dine al fresco. The luxurious hot tub adds the finishing touches for a holiday to remember. The magnificent, rugged English Heritage coastline of Hartland and beyond runs across the farm in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering a perfect haven for walkers and bird watchers. Narrow lanes from the doorstep wind down to secluded sand and shingle beaches. Berry Beach is just a short walk. Children will love the pets corner on the farm, and the large play field is the perfect spot for them to let off steam. The famous sandy surfing beaches of Westward Ho! and Bude are an easy drive and for family fun, the Big Sheep and the Milky Way adventure parks are close by. There are numerous National Trust properties in the area, as well as the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Docton Mill. Clovelly with its quaint cobbled streets and picturesque harbour is a must. The village of Hartland is just 3 miles and has a good selection of village shops and pubs all serving good local produce. The historic port of Bideford with its lively market, Lundy Island ferry, array of shops and other amenities is just 15 miles. Golf, fishing, sailing, surfing and horse riding available locally. Shops and pubs 3 miles.

This property is situated on a working farm, therefore pets must be kept on a lead and children must be supervised at all times.

Please note this is note a party house. Parking is to the right hand side of the Smuggler when facing the property from the road, it is not a through road due to the location of the bedroom.

“Idyllic. Lucky enough to have idyllic weather too, to accompany the perfect getaway cottage. Stunning views, terrific hosts, fascinating farm and a very comfy cottage. Couldn't ask for more.”

“Very comfortable accommodation and lovely, friendly hosts.”

“A little piece of heaven by the sea. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Located a short walk from the coastal cliff top walk. It is SO peaceful and quiet you hear nothing other than the farm animals and the birds! It is literally in the middle of the countryside and there is a little village (Hartland) a short drive away down country lanes. As there are no big supermarkets nearby we did an online shop as most deliver here. Perfect! Hot tub was clean and we enjoyed our retreat! Look forward to going back again.”

“Perfect location if you are looking to find a hideaway gem with stunning views. Lovely coastal walks & a hot tub to relax in when you return. You will need a car though if you want to go out of an evening for food etc. Accommodation is very well equipped & very comfortable double bed!”

“Smugglers Retreat was everything we wanted for a relaxing week away. The facilities in the cottage and games room were superb. We used the games room and the hot tub late afternoonearly evening after returning from days out. Hartland village has a shop and 3 pubrestaurants but we preferred to eat in at night. The views were stunning and in the evening you could watch the sunset from the hot tub. Spacious bedrooms, well equipped kitchen we would definitely recommend it.”

“Stunning place with stunning views. Right on the South West Coast Path. Hosts are very welcoming and will answer any questions you may have. Accommodation very clean & 2 of the bedrooms have fabulous showers in the ensuite. The hot tub was a luxury especially after our long walks. The farm is at the end of a very long roadtrack but oh so peaceful. A great place to unwind & get away from the pressures of day to day life. I would definitely recommend this place, it was a rare find.”

“This is the second time weve stayed here and we are already talking about booking it for next year. If you want a holiday thats away from everything (except the farm and its animals of course!), with great walks nearby and amazing views then this is the place! We had a couple of small issues, both of which were dealt with really quickly by the owners. The cottage is comfortable and warm, with most equipment youll need. The hot tub is a real bonus and a fabulous treat after a hard days walkingbiking. Cant wait to come again.”

“Beautiful cottage with outstanding scenery. Remote but perfect for time away. Owners very friendly”

“Always a real treat to revisit this magical place. If its a switch off from the day to day grind of life this is definitely the place for you.”

“We had short break with very reasonable weather at Smugglers Retreat; it was good to switch off and relax. The cottage is right on the end of the Hartland peninsula and certainly off the beaten track. There is very easy access to the coastal path with good walking and fantastic scenery & wildlife. This is a working farm with some cattle and usual farmyard activities but these were well away from the cottage. There are other cottages on the same site but they are well spread out and the cottage feels private. The cottage itself was warm, comfortable, quiet and well equipped. There were only two of us staying as we had been forced to change of plans but this would have been very comfortable for a larger group. Plenty of bathrooms and the bedrooms were all very spacious. Kitchen Living area was very well appointed and clean. WiFi worked well. We enjoyed a dip in the hot tub under the stars. (The headland is a 'dark sky' area so its easy to see many stars and the Milky Way).Pattards restaurant in Hartland and the Farmers in Woolsfardisworthy were recommended to us but unfortunately both closed as out of seasonwrong day so do check before traveling. (Again, this was mainly because our stay was cut short). Its about a 510 minute drive to Hartland and another 10 to the A39. Large shops in Bideford probably around 30mins from the cottage. Would be nice to have a Visitor Book we often find these helpful at this sort of accommodation a useful record of local activities and hintsreviews.”
