These two very comfortable semi-detached holiday cottages (26817 and 26818) occupy a stunning elevated position on a mixed working farm on the headland just outside the beautiful village of Pennan. Both properties boast fantastic sea views; Mill Shore Cottage has a cosy living room which features windows on two sides allowing uninterrupted viewing of Mill Shore below – a secluded shingle beach with sandy shallows beyond, offering a unique perspective on the abundant marine life – seals can be spotted easily in the bay, whilst further out whales and dolphins are often sighted. Pennan Lodge again has marvellous views of Pennan itself and the bay beyond. In addition to the amazing marine life, just round the corner and visible from the cottages is Troup Head, a renowned nature reserve featuring the only UK mainland colony of gannets. Next door is Cullykhan Beach, another secluded cove reached by a steep walk down to the shore. Pennan is renowned for its famous phone box as featured in the film ’Local Hero’ but it is a lovely village in its own right, typical of those strung out along this rugged coastline, including Crovie and Gardenstown, reached by steep winding roads to the bottom of the cliffs from which they cling. This is an AONB providing wonderful areas for walking. Shop and restaurant 4 miles, pub ¼ mile.

Guest Comments

"An excellent property with a stunning view of the sea. Very comfortable. The only very minor snag was that the shower lacked a bit of power. The central heating was very effective and easily controllable. Pennan itself is a bit quiet with only the pub/restaurant - which is very good but only open from 5pm Wed to Sun. The walk up the hill to the cottage nearly killed us so take the car!"

"Relaxing, quiet country setting. If the sitting room windows had been a bit lower would give a spectacular view over the north sea and the local beach. Heating in cottage was very good."

"Lovely clean cottage with fantastic views ,very lucky with weather."

"We found everything that we desired in the cottage, and round about. The local amenities' score merely reflects the necessity of travelling to the shops for supplies. It's not detrimental. The views are superb and negate the "need" for television. We didn't even bother switching either one of them on. We had books, and the views through the windows. The comfort levels are high, and it was a nice touch to be "greeted" by a Christmas lights, etc., when we entered the cottage. We were new to the area and were more than plasantly surprised by what the region has to offer, and will most certainly return."

"Lovely quiet location. Cottage was well equipped and very comfortable. The double bedroom was excellent, comfy bed. Great views from sitting room ,although you have to be upright to view. Would have been nice to see landscape sitting down. The seabirds were spectacular with their dives into sea. Lots of sheep and cattle, also a very friendly Tup in adjacent field .Surrounding area very nice ,lovely coves. Pity Pennan Inn only open at weekends. Great fish and chips in Fraserburgh.Would have been nice to have met the cottage owners who we believe stay in vicinity as cottage is on there working farm. Could have then gleaned more local knowledge! We had a nice relaxing break nevertheless."

"Beautiful views, lovely accommodation, well equipped"

Carol, September 2018

"We have stayed at MILL SHORE COTTAGE before and true to our word we came back. We spent the week touring around local small towns/villages and coastal areas. We had a great time and the weather was mostly good, but it was always a pleasure to come back to such a lovely place to relax in for the evening. Could have spent forever looking out to sea from this amazing vantage pointThe owner was very helpful when the TV unexpectedly lost its signal, she was so apologetic, and it was in no way her fault, but she went to every length to try and resolve it.There is no longer a bath at the property so might me an idea to remove the picture. The only thing I would like, as the cooking person, is to have a sieve or a colander. Very minor points but if you don't make then they may go unnoticed. Fantastic place though and we enjoyed ourselves immensely."

"Beautiful and very clean cottage in lovely rural location with sea views. A shame the views can’t be fully enjoyed when sitting down in the living room due to height of windows but otherwise can’t fault this place. No amenities in immediate area but I knew this when booking. Stunning and rugged spot which is exceptionally peaceful. Nice modern feel too. More than happy to recommend and would be happy to return."

David, September 2018

"An unbeatable view, both day and night, from a comfortable and cosy cottage. Sunshine, a full rainbow, starry skies, seals, a whale, rabbits, gannets. A real treat each time we looked out of the window. The new kitchen and bathroom are really big assets. We booked this years holiday the day we came back, last year to be sure we got preferred dates. Circumstances mean we can't come next year, but we will certainly return."

COVID-19 Information

This information is provided by the property's owner or manager and is relevant to this property ONLY:

"You will be able to choose any one of the following three options if we or the accommodation provider cancel your booking, or if you cancel your booking because UK government public health measures mean that it is unlawful to travel to or make use of the accommodation you booked:
Full refund - we will refund you the full amount you have paid for your booking.
Transfer to a later date or different accommodation - subject to availability, we will help you move your booking to a later date or even a new location or accommodation with no admin fees, but please be aware that if the cost of your new accommodation is higher than your original booking, then you’ll need to pay the difference.
Choose an e-voucher to rebook your holiday online - you can request an e-voucher for the amount you have previously paid for your booking. You can then use it to book a new holiday online or towards another existing booking, without having to call us. Vouchers issued in 2020 are valid until 31st December 2020 and can be used on holidays departing before 31st December 2021.
Plus, to give our customers the added flexibility they need at this time, for any bookings with arrival dates on or before 31 December 2020, the following applies:
Pay for your 2020 break just 3 weeks before you go - to give you more time to pay for your holiday during these uncertain times, we’ve moved the balance due date for bookings with arrival dates up to 31st December 2020 to just 21 days before your holiday is due to start. If you choose to cancel your holiday before your balance due date, then we will waive your liability for the remainder of the balance and no further amount will be collected from you. If you choose to cancel on or after your balance due date, then you will need to pay the cancellation charges (according to the number of days before the start of your holiday) as set out in the cancellation charges table which you can find in your booking conditions, as well as any applicable booking fees, admin charges or insurance premiums that you owe. See booking conditions here.
*If you have booked a property that is stated to sleep 10 people or more and your booking begins between 1 September and 31 December 2020, your balance due date will remain at 12 weeks prior to the holiday start date as set out in the booking conditions."
