Description

This 14th-century castle is the perfect retreat for a luxurious gathering with family, where you can relax with your feet up around the wood burner. . Knock Old Castle dates back to the 14th-century and has been fantastically resurrected by the current owner into a truly unique, whimsical, fairytale castle. In what has been a 5 year long project, this detached castle has been lovingly restored. Local craftsmen have utilised their skills, imagination and expertise to make this property into something that will amaze every guest.

From the quirky doors and interior, where no straight lines will be found, to the sauna in the tower, and the painted ceiling in the keep, to the stunning views over the sea from the glass domed lookout, and not forgetting the sheep grazing on the wild flower roof. Old Knock Castle will be sure to exceed every expectation.

The castle is situated on the Ayrshire coast, in a private setting, 200 yards from the owner’s home, with only a short walk from the shore and close to the bustling town of Largs with its shops, restaurants and promenade. This holiday property is ideally located to explore the islands of Cumbrae, Arran and the Isle of Bute. Ferries run to Dunoon and the Cowal Peninsula, giving access to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.

Ayrshire offers a varying coastline with villages, beaches and rocky coves to explore, and is an ideal location for cyclists and walkers, with Skelmorlie heralding the start of the Ayrshire Coastal Path, a 100 mile long coastal walk. Inland there is walking, cycling, gardens and castles to visit, riding, fishing, racing and a choice of golf courses, including the world famous open venues of Troon Prestwick and Turnberry.

Culzean Castle Country Park, extending over 550 acres, has a network of wooded trails passing along the beach. Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily reached for a day trip, with rail links available from the town. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.. Ground Floor:

"No amount of pictures can prepare you for the breathtaking beauty of this property, we have just had the most amazing two weeks here and being able to take the dogs was fantastic. The castle is stunning and restored to an incredibly high standard, the lawns and grounds are also fabulous and there is so much space. The town is also really lovely and there is lots to do in the area.We booked to go again while we were still there and can’t wait to return.A truly unique property which does not disappoint!"

"Absolutely loved the castle, was gutted that we had to leave 🙂 the owners are very welcoming and accommodating. Would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for a holiday with a bit of a difference."

"Had a great time staying in a castle - 2 families with kids. It was just before Christmas so it was decorated with lots of Christmas decorations and a tree which we loved. Plenty of space for kids to run around and explore. We were also able to take our dogs which meant our whole family could enjoy the experience. Loved the attention to detail - there were things for the dogs, games and toys for the kids and even bath robes in the top bedroom for using to come down the turret stairs."

"We had such a fab time at Old Knock castle- we will be back- one thing that could be improved is the top double room really lacked storage space and hanging space for clothes. This is hard to achieve in a bedroom in the eaves by possibly a small clothes rail or even a couple of hooks on the wall as you enter the room would be a help. Other than that, we all loved it!"

"Brilliant property for a big family getaway! We went for a 50th birthday celebration to stay somewhere special and it didn't disappoint.I give it 10/10 for everything apart from few little niggles on equipment e.g. 2 slice toaster but adequate for amount of guests, few cooking utensils and bowls to add to collection. The view is breathtaking and the attention to detail in all the rooms is amazing, would definately go again and recommend highly to others."

"Wonderful stay! We loved every minute of our stay! Thank you! Thank you!"

"A truly unique and magical experience! The castle is very comfortable and has been filled with quality furnishings etc. Read the story of it's history and refurbishment if you go, it's fascinating. You can meet the lovely owners too who made us feel very welcome. The welcome pack was a first for me and was very useful. The view from the hot tub was the best I've ever had. Look out for the Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales toilet too. 4 floors and lots of stairs so not suitable for people with mobility issues. Our whole group had a wonderful time."

COVID-19 Information

This information is provided by the property's owner or manager and is relevant to this property ONLY:

"You will be able to choose any one of the following three options if we or the accommodation provider cancel your booking, or if you cancel your booking because UK government public health measures mean that it is unlawful to travel to or make use of the accommodation you booked:
Full refund - we will refund you the full amount you have paid for your booking.
Transfer to a later date or different accommodation - subject to availability, we will help you move your booking to a later date or even a new location or accommodation with no admin fees, but please be aware that if the cost of your new accommodation is higher than your original booking, then you’ll need to pay the difference.
Choose an e-voucher to rebook your holiday online - you can request an e-voucher for the amount you have previously paid for your booking. You can then use it to book a new holiday online or towards another existing booking, without having to call us. Vouchers issued in 2020 are valid until 31st December 2020 and can be used on holidays departing before 31st December 2021.
Plus, to give our customers the added flexibility they need at this time, for any bookings with arrival dates on or before 31 December 2020, the following applies:
Pay for your 2020 break just 3 weeks before you go - to give you more time to pay for your holiday during these uncertain times, we’ve moved the balance due date for bookings with arrival dates up to 31st December 2020 to just 21 days before your holiday is due to start. If you choose to cancel your holiday before your balance due date, then we will waive your liability for the remainder of the balance and no further amount will be collected from you. If you choose to cancel on or after your balance due date, then you will need to pay the cancellation charges (according to the number of days before the start of your holiday) as set out in the cancellation charges table which you can find in your booking conditions, as well as any applicable booking fees, admin charges or insurance premiums that you owe. See booking conditions here.
*If you have booked a property that is stated to sleep 10 people or more and your booking begins between 1 September and 31 December 2020, your balance due date will remain at 12 weeks prior to the holiday start date as set out in the booking conditions."
