Portland Harbour is home to a 16th-century coastal fort and you can explore the pirates’ graveyard, Church Ope Cove, a former smugglers hideout, or visit the Castletown D-Day Centre. Portland has several quarries to discover and a host of wildlife to observe - Peregrine Falcons can be spotted round Portland and along the cliffs, or try and spot dolphins in the waters surrounding the island. Portland also forms part of the UNESCO Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and Chesil Beach which starts here, runs eighteen miles to West Bay. Windsurfing, diving, sea fishing, climbing and yachting are all available nearby. Portland Harbour is also famous for its sailing and water sports being home to the National Sailing Academy and was the site of the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Other places to explore are the popular seaside town of Weymouth just 5 miles away where you can sample many of its restaurants, visit Brewer’s Quay, take a harbour cruise or even venture out for a day trip on the ferry to Guernsey. If you want to venture a little further why not visit Lulworth Cove and Abbotsbury both within 20 miles and well worth a visit.

“Seascape Retreat was the perfect accommodation for a short staycation in the UK on the South Coast. The place was extremely clean and in such an ideal location with such short walks to the beach and local amenities. We made use of the games room in the garden and had a great time playing games we hadn't played in a long time! Everything you needed was provided for a short stay. We would definitely recommend Seascape Retreat for your staycation on the South Coast!”

“This is a great property that offered us as a family plenty to do and keep everyone happy. The games room and hot tub were big hits. The property was comfy and clean and had a lovely welcome basket. Parking was no problem nearby so lack of dedicated parking didnt cause us any difficulty. Tiny extras that would be really handy are door stops to make access easier with full hands and a clothes horse to dry wet stuff in bad weather! Overall would definitely book again.”

“Spent a lovely cosy week at Seascape Retreat. A wonderfully equipped cottage. Secluded and peaceful. Lovely games room and hot tub which is sheltered from the rain. Board games and jigsaw puzzles in the dining room kept us entertained. TV took some working out and we couldnt understand why the ROKU controller wasnt working just needed new batteries which gave us a challenge during our first day working out the problem. £5.50 return on the bus to Weymouth where we visited some wonderful restaurants during the week (Crustacean, Nicetta & Sambo Rodizo). Everything was spot on and we would highly recommend this lovely cosy, well presented cottage.Others have said parking was a problem but we always found a place to park up the road, this wasnt an issue for us. To sum it up 10 out of 10.”

“This really is a great place to stay and would recommend , however I think the cleaning side needs to be looked at, don't get me wrong I'm not suggesting it's unclean but there were a few things that weren't great and especially as its supposedly 5 star !!”

“Seascape is beautiful and has everything you would want for a holiday. The games room and hot tub are outstanding!! There was a lovely and thoughtful welcome pack in the kitchen which you couldnt fault. Our only gripe is the parking or lack of it. Both car parks were full and we ended up parking way down the hill which would have been ok if the weather had been dry it wasnt. Torrential rain and gales all week. We would recommend booking if dining out as the best place to eat was the Cove House Inn, which was either fully booked or closed. We would highly recommend Seascape Retreat.”

“Seascape retreat was fabulous! Lovely clean bright modern decor, we had a lovely surprise on arrival, as did the dog. Beautiful views from the bedrooms, great games room and amazing hot tub which we made full use of. Kitchen was also well kitted out with all you need should you chose to cook. Only thing to be aware of is that there is no allocated parking for the property which is on a steep hill but we managed to park not too far up the road so didnt cause us any problems. Highly recommend.”

“Seacape Retreat provided a great week away from it all, was well stocked and had great amenities. I would recommend it to others wishing a luxurious week away.”

“We had a wonderful weeks holiday at Seascape retreat. We loved our welcome hamper, it was full of lots of lovely things. We had our 6 and 3 year old children with us and they both loved the games room. Sitting on the front terrace watching the sunset was beautiful and the hot tub was a lovely way to end the day. I would definitely recommend Seascape retreat. The only issue we had was parking. As you cannot park out the front of the property we often had to park quite far away. There is a garage opposite where we parked to load and unload the car though.”

“Fantastic accommodation, the owner has thought of everything. Beds were comfy, games room was amazing and we loved the hot tub. Lovely cove 10 mins walk away with a great cafe, Quiddles. We had a great meal at the Crab house cafe and some fab days out.... Corfe castle, swanage railway, durdle door and lulworth cove and Monkey World. The sandy beach at Weymouth was lovely.”

“Was an amazing house kept very clean, the welcome back was such a lovely gesture. We used the hot tub and games room and both my young boys loved it.The location was 15 mins away from Weymouth. There isnt much to do around the area so we did travel out quite a bit. Chesil beach is walking distance and its a lovely spot to see the sunset and have dinner there, there is a pizza place and fish and chips place (selling vegan fish too) do spent a couple of nights around there.Overall an amazing trip.”

“Fantastic house with everything you need. Wonderful welcome hamper, fabulous games room, hot tub, soft towels, lots of seating.I only lowered the location score as the road is very busy just before the house and is difficult to cross and you can hear the trucks. I didn't realise Portland was so busy, but they are still transporting the Portland Stone from the quarries. It's very quiet at night so did not disturb any sleep.Portland is a very hilly place so you need to be fit to walk anywhere, and there is very limited parking. Often we got the only space in the car park. You can't stop outside the property as it's a single track road on a bend. But there is a garage opposite you can pull into to unload, if the space is available. There is no nearby sandy beach, but there is a bus service to Weymouth which stops very close to the property. You can drive to Norden and get the steam train to Swanage for a nice day out too. Our dog was made very welcome with her own hamper, and she loved all the long walks. Keep your dog on lead though on the cliffs. The Verne area is nice and safe to walk the dog off lead. Do visit Quiddles cafebarrestaurant above the beach. It's a really lovely place with fantastic sunset views and great food and drinks. We also got the bus to the Crab House Cafe just over the bridge, very good seafood, you MUST book in advance! Other local amenities include a chemist, coop, an Indian take away, a cafe, and fish and chips. We didn't use the local pubs so can't speak for them. The owner has provided a really lovely property and we felt quite comfortable and came back very relaxed. We do recommend this property.”
