The garden was created by Osgood Mackenzie, who built one of Scotland’s most popular botanical attractions from bare rock and scrub willows and is now filled with an array of colourful plants from around the world from New Zealand to Tasmania and China, resulting in a tropical paradise. As well as the garden which Osgood spent his life dedicated to developing, he also built an original Scottish baronial-style house, which was destroyed by a fire and later rebuilt by Osgood’s daughter Mairi and her husband, Ronald, edging away from the Scottish baronial-style and instead, a more art-deco style specked with Dutch Colonial features. After dinner, retire to the sitting room where you can relax on the plush seating as you recount the day's adventures with picturesque views of Loch Ewe on offer. Continue through to find a well-appointed bathroom, complete with bath and walk-in shower for freshening up at the end of the day, along with three beautifully decorated bedrooms, two king-size, one with en-suite bathroom, and a twin, all of which enjoy lovely views over the garden and out to Loch Ewe. In the morning, you can explore the expansive grounds, where you will find plenty of seating, dining areas, a café, an abundance of plant and wildlife, and nature trails, including the Pinewood Trail and the Kernsary Path. On the ground-floor of the manor house, you can enjoy tours of the museum and an art gallery, where Osgood’s daughter Mairi’s original furnishings and possessions remain. Poolewe is where you will find all of your local amenities, including a well-stocked village store, the Bridge Cottage Café & Sourdough Bakery, a Post Office, Pool House Historic Home, and the delightful Poolewe Tuesday Market, where you can meet the locals and purchase local goods. Poolewe, a picturesque settlement, can be found in Loch Ewe's protection, near the point where the River Ewe emerges from Loch Maree. There is a well-stocked shop, a small swimming pool, and two hotels in this picturesque town, which is located in an area with breathtaking views. Just across the bay from the town is the internationally acclaimed Inverewe Garden, which is maintained by the National Trust for Scotland. Between 1862 and his death in 1922, botanist Osgood Mackenzie worked tirelessly to improve the area. As a result of the Gulf Stream's moderate climate, it has become a haven for exotic plants that have been imported from all corners of the globe. The stunning sands of Gruinard Bay are located five miles to the west, while Firemore Beach is located a similar distance north along the coast; a string of beautiful beaches round the bay, and many of them are easily accessible from the main road. The area is perfect for a vacation because to the beautiful scenery, mountains, and abundance of activities such as hillwalking, golfing, fishing, cruising with wildlife, and much more.
