Gelli Bach at Gelli Las is a charming, detached stone cottage set within the grounds of the owner’s country retreat and 45 acres of private woodland and pasture on a hillside above the small village of Llanbedr. The location is truly peaceful and ideal for couples seeking a romantic getaway or quiet bolthole to read, walk and relax.
The property is encompassed within the Eyri National Park (Snowdonia) and enjoys views across Cardigan Bay to the Llyn Peninsula. Behind the cottage rise the beautiful Rhinog Mountains.
Gelli Bach at Gelli Las is reached via a narrow, wooded lane and a steep drive, at the top of which guests will find a parking area and designated parking spot. From there, it is a walk of 150-200 metres along a grass path to the outdoor terrace and front door of the old stone cottage.
Inside, the open-plan living space is fashioned in contemporary cottage style to incorporate a cosy kitchen, dining and sitting room.
A white-painted staircase leads to an elegant bedroom with a king-size sleigh bed, an ensuite shower room and a large cupboard for clothes and storage.
Enjoy waking up to breakfast at the kitchen table or, on finer days, al fresco on the terrace. End the day here with drinks in front of the chiminea or take a stroll into the nearby fields to watch the sun set over the sea.
Should the weather not be kind, there is an external drying cupboard in the adjoining woodshed where wet clothes and footwear can be dried and stored.
Llanbedr is less than a mile away and can be reached by car or on foot (a 20-minute stroll downhill; slightly longer on the way up). The village has an excellent local shop for provisions and a pretty riverside pub and restaurant. Bikes can also be hired in the village.
Nearby beaches include the beautiful five-mile stretch of Harlech Beach; Shell Island with its lively campsite and Llandanwg with its pretty medieval church in the sand dunes. Or head to Barmouth where there are water sports, shops, a good selection of restaurants, and a Thursday market.
Guests can enjoy multiple walks from the door of the cottage or head further afield to the remote Nantcol and Cwm Bychan valleys, where there are pretty lakes and rivers and some excellent hiking challenges up Moelfre, Y Llethr or the Rhinogs. Snowdonia’s more famous peaks are all within an hour’s drive.
Harlech Castle, the slate mines at Llanfair, and the fabulous Italianate village of Portmeirion are closer by and make for great day trips from Gelli Bach at Gelli Las.
Or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of the cottage, the birdsong and the beautiful views.
