Ty Melyn Mair (Marigold Cottage) is a characterful retreat full of rustic charm, nestled in the quiet hamlet of Gilfachrheda. Nearby is the picturesque coastal town of New Quay once the home of Dylan Thomas. Just a few minutes walk down a delightful country lane from Ty Melyn Mair are two beautiful, unspoilt beaches, Cei Bach and Llanina. These are both dog-friendly all year round. At low tide it is possible to walk to Newquay across the sandy beach, arriving amidst the boats and seaside atmosphere of this picturesque town.

New Quay is the mid-point of the All Wales Coast Path - the perfect destination for wildlife lovers, watersports enthusiasts or those wanting to explore the great outdoors. You can also stroll around the many restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops that you will find in this lovely little town.

The harbour has a 200-year-old stone pier extending out to sea: a wonderful place to look out and spot the famous bottlenose dolphins, and the perfect place to enjoy an ice cream or fish and chips.

There are many sandy beaches in the area at Tresaith, Penbryn, Mwnt and Llangrannog – to name a few. From New Quay it is easy to explore Cardigan Bay, the market towns of Aberaeron and Cardigan, and the bustling University town of Aberystwyth.

Reviews

“A very rustic cottage, the pictures shown on the description were taken a long time ago, as very overgrown. Every thing was there but a total mis match of everything”

“A great location to explore Ceredigion, and to enjoy an easy 20 minute stroll along quiet, country lanes to the gorgeous Cei Bach Beach. Expect rustic accommodation, a tranquil, secluded garden, a good overthebath shower and comfortable beds.”

“just come back from an amazing family stay at ty melyn mair its location is brilliant only a 15 min walk to the beach with one slight hill to go up and a five minute drive to newquay itself the cottage itself was very comfortable and the garden was perfect for the kids and the dog alaistair was very friendly and obliging even asked him for an extra night would love to come to back for future stays”

“We really enjoyed the lovely garden, it was definitely the highlight for us and the dog enclosed and a lovely sitting area. It's a great location if you are able to walk (a bit nothing major!) the beach and sea were absolutely stunning at low tide. We had a paddleboard adventure over to Newquay Harbour too, and that was really exciting and totally doable with decent kit.Overall we really enjoyed our stay, the house is clean and comfortable and well priced for this time of year. It's not shiny and new, but that's part of the charm.Diolch yn fawr.”

“The cottage is in a perfect location for woodland & beach walks. We especially enjoyed the walk from the door to the Honey Farm, following the stream through woodland. Also the easy walk to Newquay along the beach at low tide. The weather was fantastic so we also spent time in the private, fully enclosed garden. The village is peaceful, with friendly neighbours. We enjoyed lovely lunches in St Dogmaels & at the Honey Farm. The cottage is quiet with a comfortable bed. We hope to return in the autumn.”

“The cottage is perfectly placed in a peaceful, friendly hamlet a short walk from a lovely, dogfriendly beach. There are also lovely woodland walks straight from the cottage one of which takes you very close to the Avon Mel honey farm which has a shop and a very nice caf. The cottage is comfortable and wellequipped with a contained garden which is ideal for dogs. A big thank you to Alistair for replacing the faulty DVD player with a new one within 24 hours.”

“We had a lovely enjoyable stay at the cottage it was cosy quiet and peaceful, the owner Alistair was lovely and very helpful with our requests, and made our stay there very enjoyable one. The beach and coastal path are within easy reach from the cottage and there are two of them. Public transport in the area is also very reliable and mostly on time , bus stops are easily accessible from the footpath a short walk from the cottage.”

“We have just returned from Ty Melyn Mair after a wonderful week's holiday. Alistair made us feel very welcome and answered all our questions. The cottage was very homely and well equipped and we settled in straight away. The stairs are steep, which may be an issue for some, but we found them fine: it's what you'd expect from an old character cottage. The garden was the best that we've had in all of our cottage holidays. It was totally private, sunny and yet sheltered from wind. There was no need for steps: you could walk out of the back door into the garden, on the flat. It was very safe and secure for our dog (and would be for children). The pretty shelter in the garden was excellent for meals, drinks and relaxing, and it meant we could enjoy the garden even if it rained. The cottage and the garden were very quiet and calm. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again if we return to this area.”

“We loved our stay at Ty Melin Mair! We felt very welcomed by Alistair, its nice to have the owner greet you rather than the key safe option. The garden was appreciated by the dogs and ourselves; a little haven of peace after great days swimming and playing on the beach. The cottage has everything you need for a holiday in this beautiful part of Wales.”

“What a lovely quaint cottage, that we had the pleasure of staying in for a week! The cottage is well equipped with everything you need, the beds are comfortable and suitable for a family of four plus our dog, who loved the safe, enclosed back garden, with onsite parking. It's ideally located ten minutes walk away from the beautiful Cei Bach and Newquay beach. It's so quiet and peaceful there. An Ideal place to relax in and unwind, a perfect retreat for a small family, and our dog Jerry loved his little break there too! Alistair the owner was very helpful and informative. Highly recommended, we look forward to our next holiday there.”

“Lovely owner with cosy property near some lovely dog friendly beaches. No shop nearby to nip to so take milk, tea, etc. We loved Llanangrog, Aberporth and Aberaeron. Beautiful.”

“Full refurbishment needed . Stayed one night because we were too tired to drive home . Asked for refund next day . Owners reaction to my wifes complaints was shocking . Property hadnt been cleaned properly for many months . Holiday ruined . I hope the owner as the decency to fully refurbish the property and then employ a professional cleaner before letting again. But having meet him I doubt that. Russell White”

“Ty Melvyn Mair is a lovely little cottage with a private enclosed garden. We settled in very quickly and soon felt at home there. It is perfect for visiting places along the coast. We went to Cardigan and Aberporth, both worth a visit. You can walk into nearby New Quay along roads, or along the beach when the tide is out. There isnt a local shop within a short walking distance, so make sure you stock up beforehand. Alistair the owner was very friendly and happy to help. We wouldnt hesitate to recommend staying there.”

“The cottage has a lovely enclosed garden. It is also in a good location; close to the coast path and easy to get into New Quay, or to get out to the main road (the A 487).”

“A lovely place to stay with our two dogs. 10 minutes walk from two different beaches. CeiBach fabulous for a morning walk . We enjoyed walking to New quay at low tide. A close drive to many small coves so very convenient. A shelter in the garden was good to sit out under come rain or shine and the cottage had all you needed for a pleasant week. Stairs are very steep but we were ok with that.”

“Ty Melyn Mair is a delightful, cosy cottage which makes an ideal base from which to explore this section of the Ceredigion coast. Everything works well, which isn't always true of holiday cottages! Great shower, oven and hob, and log burner all make for an easy, comfortable stay. The cottage is well equipped with everything you could need on your holiday, and the numerous books, games and DVDs in themselves could keep you more than entertained if the weather isn't so great. There's a lovely covered seating area in the garden which is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a few quiet moments. The stairs are quite steep, and the cottage isn't large, but it has loads of character and has been put together with a view to giving guests a comfortable, homefromhome holiday.”
